Driver Guide

Renting vs. owning a car for Uber & DoorDash in Atlanta.

If you drive for a living, the car is your tool. Here's what each path actually costs you — and what's already included when you rent weekly.

Two ways to put wheels under your work

Full-time drivers in Atlanta generally have two options: put miles on a car you own, or rent one by the week. Both can work — the difference is where the risk sits. When you own the car, you carry the insurance bill, the maintenance schedule, and every repair surprise. When you rent weekly, those are built into one rate you already know before the week starts.

What you pay when you own

Car payment or the full purchase price
Money tied up before you earn your first ride
Insurance premium
Commercial-use coverage for rideshare work often costs more than a personal policy
Maintenance & repairs
Oil changes, tires, brakes — and the risk of a large repair that stops your income
Depreciation
High rideshare mileage lowers the car's resale value month after month
Registration, taxes & fees
Annual Georgia tag, title, and ad valorem costs

None of these amounts are one number — they arrive separately, and the big ones (repairs, insurance) can land all at once.

What you pay when you rent weekly

Insurance included· Maintenance included

One predictable weekly rate — currently around $375 per week for cars in our available fleet — plus fuel. No insurance bill, no repair shop, no depreciation on a car you have to sell later. And no long-term commitment: you rent week to week, or day to day, and return the car when the work changes.

How drivers decide

Renting fits better when…

  • You don't want repair downtime — a swap keeps you earning
  • You drive high mileage and don't want it on your own odometer
  • Your income varies and a fixed weekly cost is easier to plan around
  • You're new to Atlanta or rideshare and testing the work first

Owning fits better when…

  • Your car is already paid off and running well
  • You drive only part-time, a few hours a week
  • You've priced commercial insurance yourself and it's affordable
  • You want to build equity in the vehicle long-term
